Game of the week:Death Penalty Zombie Football

I love soccer. I adored this summer because I could watch soccer all of the time because of the World Cup. When I saw Death Penalty Zombie Football and was immediately excited to play.  After playing the game, I found it’s a little gruesome.

Players:  It is man vs. man. You can compete with either the computer or other online players.

Outcome: The players need to outwit the other team of dead zombies with their moves to score.

Procedure: You move the mouse let and right to navigate on the pitch. You move the mouse up and down to aim the ball. To shoot all you have to do it click.

Rules:  You race against the clock to make it past the dead players to score. You are not allowed to use your hands to move the ball.

Conflict: The dead soccer players are the obstacles to get past.

Objective: The objective of the game is to score before the time runs out to avoid being literally torn a part by zombies.

Boundaries: There is an undetermined nature to the game.

Assignment

Our group accomplished a lot this week. We all got together and met at the library. Kyle worked on the interface design, which I must say looks quite wonderful. Matt was busy away with coding and figured out how to get our characters to come from a central area instead of just falling for the sky. Huge kudos to him for figuring it out. Matt also worked on some sound effects and peppy music to add another element to our project. I designed our characters in Illustrator. I created two students and two teachers for our project. I might have to do some readjusting for our final project but they are good for our initial testing.

I’m excited for our final product!

Assignment

The plan was that our group worked far enough in advance that we could enjoy the holiday break. Though this was accomplished, we need to regain focus immediately on Monday. We need to further develop our characters by adding detail. In addition, we also need to focus on how to make our background look more realistic. There needs to be more attention and research based on motion detection to make sure the kinks and bugs aren’t there. We have a lot of work to do, but I’m confident we can accomplish it!

Assignment

Team Bumfuzzle really took what other groups had to say and started planning how we can incorporate them into our game to make it more user friendly. Sometimes you get so wrapped up what you’re looking at you miss details or the “gorilla” in the room.

Beside making these changes and currently designing images for our game, I’m also trying to get our shirts made.  It will hopefully be through a screen printing process.

Game of the Week: The Chronicles of Narnia The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The Chronicles of Narnia The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

City ports can be deadly for outsiders but in order to unlock secrets about the island the voyager must explore them.  This game is to create hype around the Narnia movie.  I realized I like games with a plot. Though I’m not completely sure of the entire story, the game does a good job by giving gamers the gist of what’s happening.

Players: The game is setup so that the challenge is man vs object.

Outcome: If you make it through the course without getting three penalties then you keep going to different levels.

Procedures: Using the mouse, draw each shape to dodge obstacles. The game shows you what way you need to move your sword in order to destroy the obstacle.

Rules Conflict: You cannot jump over the obstacles or decide how to swing the sword.

Objectives: You need to destroy trees, bandits and various characters from the book to make it to the end of the course.

Boundaries: There is not a predetermined nature to the game. The player decides the outcome.

Game of the Week: Brain Dead Test

I stumbled upon this game on FOG. I was intially attracted tot he Brain Dead Test because of its vivid colors. I didn’t know the concept or requirements prior to the game. Aliens give the player riddles to complete in a certain amount of time. For example, one of the tasks says to organize a pile of rocks from the smallest to the largest. Another tasks requires that you pick pears with a certain type of logo in it.

Players: Man vs. self

Outcome: If you answer the riddles in the correct amount of time you move to the next level. When completing all the levels you prove that humans are in fact smarter than the aliens supposedly running the game.

Procedures: In this game you are arranging, selecting, jumping and navigating your way through riddles and task.

Rules: You cannot skip a task and come back to it. You are not allowed to exceed the time limit to complete a task either.

Conflict: With each level the time decreases and riddles become more difficult.

Objective: You must complete the tasks in the required amount of time.

Boundaries: There is not a predetermined nature to this game. The player controls the outcome.

2. What is it like working with your brother? What are the dynamics of a family business?

3. What difficulties did you encounter while creating this virtual environment?

4.  Can you please elaborate on your interactive storybook concept called “Story Boy”? What makes this concept an edge over other interactive products?

5. What is the process/difference of creating a character for a video vs. creating an animation a movie such as “Caroline”? Was it a difficult transition going from film to game?

6. What is the next step for Skyvu Pictures?

Game of the Week: Game Of Life

After talking to one of my teammates, I discovered that much like everything else today, a classic board game has an online version. The Game Of Life is a game that condenses life’s major events such as, graduation, getting a job, getting married and having children. Similar to the board game, the online user travels around the game’s pathway in a car. Both games share the same rules and principle. The online game is 3D and more lifelike.

Players: The online version also you can play by yourself against the computer or you can have two to six players join.

Outcome: After all players have retired, all players at Millionaire Estates count their money. The richest player takes tiles at Millionaire Estates.

Procedure: On your turn, spin the wheel. If the spinner arm stops between numbers, spin again. Then move your car the number of spaces on the spinner.
The player can only move forward in the direction of the arrows.  If you land on an occupied space, move ahead to the next open space. Follow the space directions, such as picking up a Life tile or getting a career.

Rules: A player must move forward on the board. They must follow the number they spin. The players cannot trade Life tiles pieces amongst themselves. The player must follow whatever the block they land on says.

Conflict: Just like in real life, there are similar obstacles in the game. The player faces loans, crappy jobs, bad house, poor salary and much more. The player must attempt to overcome these adversities with the luck of the spin.

Objective: The objective of the game is to have the most money when you reach retirement.

Boundaries: The game is predetermined. Everyone will reach retirement to complete the game.

I would tell you to give it a go, but I played this game via CD on my teammate’s computer.

Gaming Assignment

I think presentation day was very beneficial. Not only did I learn  from the feedback on our presentation, but I also learned a lot from what others had to say about the different groups’ presentations. We need to always keep our audience in mind. Usability may be clear to the designers but it might not be as obvious to those playing the game for the first time.  A simple goal to accomplish makes it easier for the player to latch on to the game. If you have a lot going on the player may get confused and just give up.

We did not receive a whole lot of feedback on our presentation. The class seemed to like our game’s simple, yet entertaining concept. However, learning from what other groups have done, we do need to tweak the idea of how our joy-o-meter and controls will be setup. While listening to the other groups I thought it might also be good to look into sound for our game.

It was nice to organize everything on paper but now the real challenge and creativity come.

Gaming assignment

My group is creating a game that has the capability to enhance school spirit while allowing new students to become familiar with Ball State’s campus.

The video gamer becomes Charlie the Cardinal. Their objective is to handout foam fingers and rally towels to students to increase students’ joy-o-meters.  But beware teachers are on the prowl, trying to rob students’ of their joy. Once the students have acquired a certain amount of joy, Charlie will have successfully accomplished his job.

Right now, we are drafting what each of our scenes will look like.  It’s a very creative process that allows us to have freedom over how the game will function.

I am excited to explore Flash further  and see other ways we will be control Charlie than traditional ways of maneuvering our way through the game.
